Summer has officially ended. But, the sun is still shining and the weather is pleasantly warm, so I am keeping my skirts out for a final twirl, up until the real autumn weather arrives.Today I paired one of my favorite flippy skirts with this soft lightweight sweatshirt and some black military booties for that September weather look. I am not ready to dive into wool layers just yet. For me, transition styling is all about staying comfortable with the changing seasons.
Wearing layers is the secret to surviving the mid-west weather. I usually opt for 3 and then top the look with an over coat. It is always a good idea to start with a soft and thin full-sleeve fitted t-shirt to keep you comfortable througout the day. I love the pairing of simple denim shirt under my sweaters to make the outfit look more put-together. Plus adds that extra layer of toasty comfort. Sweaters is the play area. I like to go for prints and patterns here. It is usually the star of the outfit and will be seen the most throughout the day. As you might know by now, I am huge fan of pops of color with my basic look and bright-colored outerwear does the trick. (More examples here and here) Continue reading
The best part of holiday season is spending a lot of time with family. My family is scattered all over the world. That means a lot of traveling for me. While flying across the country I like to be dressed warm and comfortable. I always get cold and sleepy on planes. While I love jetting off for a vacation, I can’t say that I like the dozens of red-eye flights and security checks that I deal with when flying somewhere. To ease the pain of traveling, I like to keep my look simple and easy. There are so many things you can do to cut down on potential security screenings and make the act of traveling more comfortable.
Happy Monday! Today’s outfit is inspired by all those of you working in a conservative work environment such as teachers. I have the privilege of enjoying a lot of freedom in my work-wear. I try to incorporate new trends and silhouettes whenever I can. My sister-in-law, Riddhi, on the other hand is a fun and fantastic teacher who has to stay in the constraints of school appropriate work-wear. Over the weekend when I met her, I got to thinking what would I wear if I was in her shoes. I decided to try my hands as a stylist to come up with a look which would be trendy and still be limited to certain restrictions such as no short hemlines or uncomfortable high heels or casual jeans. So this post is dedicated to her for challenging me to come up with a work wear that is chic yet comfortable and is compliant with the work-wear standards of schools.
When putting together this look my mind instantly went to an embellished sweatshirt. Managing a classroom full of kids requires high comfort and not many things provide you the ease a soft sweatshirt can offer. Try and opt for a loose fit embellished one for a trendy and modern look.
