Work-wear (Conservative)

Happy Monday! Today’s outfit is inspired by all those of you working in a conservative work environment such as teachers. I have the privilege of enjoying a lot of freedom in my work-wear. I try to incorporate new trends and silhouettes whenever I can. My sister-in-law, Riddhi, on the other hand is a fun and fantastic teacher who has to stay in the constraints of school appropriate work-wear. Over the weekend when I met her, I got to thinking what would I wear if I was in her shoes. I decided to try my hands as a stylist to come up with a look which would be trendy and still be limited to certain restrictions such as no short hemlines or uncomfortable high heels or casual jeans. So this post is dedicated to her for challenging me to come up with a work wear that is chic yet comfortable and is compliant with the work-wear standards of schools.

Samosa POP - conservative work wear

When putting together this look my mind instantly went to an embellished sweatshirt. Managing a classroom full of kids requires high comfort and not many things provide you the ease a soft sweatshirt can offer. Try and opt for a loose fit embellished one for a trendy and modern look.

Transition your summer dress

Fall is a beautiful season. There is something almost poetic about the falling leaves and the crisp air along with that perfect slice of pumpkin pie in your hand. Yum! I could say it is my favorite season, but then I would be lying. I love them all. There is just something special about them all. My favorite part is noticing the different colors, all these seasons offer. And the seasonal festivities they all bring along. This week my husband and I made an impromptu trip to a local pumpkin patch and bought us some bright pumpkins (couldn’t wait till the coming saturday :)). I am super excited to dive into all the fall-fun this weekend.DSC04961As you might already know, I have what some might call a deep love fair with ‘red’ (casual red, dressy redred skirt and red pants) :). I am always finding excuses to wear this darling red dress. It is one of those items in my closet that act as an instant pick-me-up. Know what I mean? You might have a few favorites of your own. The ones you never have to think twice before putting them on. But, with the dropping temperatures, the flowy chiffon dress needed a little something extra. So I decided to work some Samosa POP magic and wear it with a pretty lace sweatshirt and VIOLA my summer dress turned into a fall skirt. 🙂 As simple as that. Go on try it for yourself and create a fun and flirty fall look, perfect for those seasonal dates.

TGIF

How was your week? Mine seems to have gone by in a blink of an eye. Personally, it was one of those weeks where things just would not go as planned but I made it through. All’s well that ends well! I did get to hang out with some fun friends and also meet new fantastic people through blogger events. So happy about that. I am really looking forward to this weekend. My husband and I plan to start the ‘finally-decorating-our-living-room’ project. We moved into our place over a year ago. Then life happened and our decorating plans got stowed away in some forgotten corner (specially for our living room). We put some furniture in and the space became comfortable. It is very functional right now but, I would love some art and key pieces to make the beautiful space more symbolic of us as a couple. My latest decorating blog crush is ‘Little Green Notebook‘. It is very resourceful and you can easily spend hours on her site. (trust me! Been there, done that till late late last night). I am inspired. Only time will tell when or how our artsy project will turn into reality. DSC04838 Continue reading

Denim – All dressed up

In this trendy wedding season, try an unexpected denim dress for a surprisingly chic and well-tailored look. I wore this fun dress to a  outdoor wedding party last week. Sometimes it can be difficult to find that perfect dress for attending weddings, especially if the event will be held outdoors or the invite hints on a not-so-formal affair. I always prefer to wear something that is classic cut & easy to move in.  This dress is casual enough for an outdoor setting and formal enough for a relaxed wedding party. I wore it all evening without having to “adjust” once!

I also recommend bringing along a small jacket for evening to keep from getting too chilly after the sun goes down.  Comfortable shoes are equally as important and these block heels have just the right amount of support with a not-too-high heel that’s ideal for dancing the night away! For a more  dressy look, I would change the shoes to these nude strappy sandals.

How to rock patterned pants at work

When it comes to work wear I love an outfit that breaks the norms without alerting the HR. This year has been all about the prints and pants are no exception. Personally I can’t get enough of it. I love bold prints, small prints and all prints. I also love a look that can take me from day to night, and pieces that are versatile are budget and closet friendly. This blouse is conservative yet also beautiful in lilac. With a white blazer it looks clean against a pair of tailored printed pants, as well as office appropriate. This statement necklace is not over-bearing which goes perfect with a work-friendly high neckline.

By adding just a few trend pieces such as these patterned pants, to your work wardrobe, you can look summer fabulous and professional without blowing the whole paycheck. After work, I would add a clutch, adding the perfect amount of sparkle for cocktails.

The subtle Geo print on these pants make them perfect for an office setting. Last seen here.

Summer denim

My favorite summer time jeans come in a distressed wash and a slouchy-straight fit. These jeans perfectly complement a feminine and quintessentially summer white embroidered top.

Peplum flare

Peplums started making a comeback in 2009 (from it’s debut in the late forties and fifties). But, the revival of the trend has been apparent on the streets since September of 2011. And it’s popularity is increasing by the day. It is one of last year’s most celebrated trend. Labeled to be the most flattering trend in ages, this retro style is staying this year to give us a polished and curve complementing look. I like to channel all-out girlie style with a full skirt and a peplum blouse.

Little blooming dress

Floral dresses are in full bloom this season and I for one cannot get enough of this beautiful trend. This sweet number here combines all of my favorite current trends: color block, floral and fit & flare.
