Me

Get to know me a little better. Here’s a recent interview I did with Windy City Wardrobe for it’s Wonder Woman seriesSamosa POP 1

In 10 words or less what can people expect from your blog?

Personal style and beauty inspiration for your closet.

How did you choose the name for your blog or business?

Samosa POP is very personal to me. I wanted the name to reflect a part of my Indian heritage. What better than the globally loved samosas?! POP comes from the popular culture of the fashion world. Thus, bringing you fashion inspiration for your closet in my very own way.

How did you become aware of your entrepreneurial spirit?

I have had the entrepreneurial spirit in me since I was a kid. I was always taking lead in starting new projects and taking part in business plan competitions as I grew older. It was after college when I fully embraced being an entrepreneur while founding and running a company with my brother. I then started SamosaPOP.com as a happy hobby to inspire women around the world to get them excited about the 20 ish minutes they spend getting dressed everyday and have enjoyed seeing it grow into a styling business venture.

Name your favorite place to shop online and in store.

What are your top tips for networking?

Don’t be afraid to go up to anyone and just say hi. I like to pretend the person I am networking with is already a friend. This relaxes my conversation style, thus making the other person feel comfortable. Many a times they end up being a great friend after all.

Describe your best practices for organization and balance.

I love being organized. That’s how I get anything done. It is a very important tool for success. I use an elaborate labeling system, productivity apps like Toggl and numerous excel sheets that help me successfully juggle family and work.

How do you unwind?

Usually simple things like going to the beach with family and yoga help me unwind. This year I have also added meditation to my daily routine which has proved to be very calming.

What’s your favorite line of cosmetics?

Chanel and FreshSamosa POP 3Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

My mother; she is amazing!

What song is included on the soundtrack to your life?

I love ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry. It’s my go-to song.

What is your greatest personal achievement?

Marrying the man of my dreams who is also my best friend.

Finding Balance

finding balance x SP image via pinterest

When you work from home, it can become challenging to find the work/life boundaries and balance. Set some ground rules to help you form clear distinctions between the two. Here are some of my rules –

  • Plan your day – Set work hours. It’s good to follow a 9 – 5 style of schedule to keep work as a priority.
  • Never work from the bed
  • Get dressed every morning – you won’t feel productive, if you don’t look the part
  • Take pre-planned breaks – I suggest taking frequent mini walks. This helps your body stay awake and refreshed.
  • Prioritize – Separate normal life from work life. Trying to multitask and tackle both at the same time will only get you overwhelmed and your outcome will suffer
  • Bonus tip – Don’t forget/delay your meals. Sometimes we get carried in the work we are doing and forget it’s lunch time.

I am finding these simple steps have made me appreciate working from home, and in turn left me more productive and happy. Being at home can make some people feel lazy, where all they want to do is work from their couch and this is why I have put in place certain boundaries for myself to ensure that I don’t enter either one of the extremes: the lazy or the workaholic. I feel so blessed to do what I do, in the comfort of my own home, and to be my own boss. Be a self-starter!

Newport, RI

Sorry I was MIA for a couple days, as I have been a little sick this week. I thought I was all better yesterday, but when I woke up I could barely make it out of bed, let alone get any pictures taken for outfit posts. So bear with me one more day and I’ll be back with all the almost-fall outfits that I can’t wait to share with you. Today I want to share a few glimpses from my recent vacation in New England. Here’s my day spent in Newport, RI. This was one of my favorite destinations on the road trip. Continue reading
